We're considering giving all merits back to users who spent them on non-incremental upgrades before the update. This will result in users losing their bonuses gained from previous updates such as life, crime experience e.t.c.
This is the only way we can maintain long-term fairness for all players.
There are some drawbacks - users who spent their merits on items will receive those merits back, and get to keep the items and we may not be able to deduct stats from users who spent merits on upgrading them.
Considering that these upgrades probably only gave a small bonus for a small amount of time, the effects and money gained from these upgrades in particular should have long-since worn off.
What does everyone think, should we return the merits, and deduct 'most' of the bonuses?
edit: it no longer lists how many merits we've used, whereas it once did. Why was this taken down? I had over 80+ merits used, but fewer than that are displayed in the current GUI for the merits. Will the returned merits be based on the stats or the stats listed in the new merit layout ?
awhile back you could abuse the option to buy merits with points by getting to a high level and avoiding merits. This allowed certain players to buy obscene amounts of merits, then they go and earn others like the rest of us. Meanwhile, players who already had those merits are restricted.
Id suggest reforming that along with this update if fairness is your intent.

I have another concern.

That sounds more like a strategy
Sometimes its just easier to mute them then own up to your own mistakes!!
I don't think users who spent them on items should get them back if the items are left in the game, at least with life and things the effects can be removed. However it can be argued that you did benefit from the life at one point.
Either way, this is a very fair idea in my opinion

I think that you should give back all merits, not just those spent on non-incremental upgrades, since there are differet ways to spend them now
i would like to see that too if they were refunding merits

This, because everyone should get the same options.
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn’t there
He wasn’t there again today
I wish, I wish he’d go away
Hm, I'm not sure if this really makes it fairer. Before the honors were introduced, I had 125 awards and I spent only 8 merits on incremental upgrades. That means I would get 117 merits back which I could use on the freshly introduced passive stats bonuses for example, something which I assume will be more useful than life upgrades later on.
If new players think it's fair to give more than 100 merits to older players... please do so, but I don't think that will make things fair.
It ruined everything!
I want to use merits on health and stuff
Not rubbish passive incremental stuff
Incremance(if that even is a word) is rubbish
At least Ched is listening now
